Director of Process Engineering (Houston, TX)
We are establishing a pilot plant operation in Houston to promote and expand our innovative technology for crude oil desulfurization. Initially, this operation will be made up of 3 chemical engineering professionals, one of whom will be in the leadership role for process engineering. This position, as well as the department, is newly created as a result of new products, company expansion, and additional venture capital funding. This is a strategic, executive level management position responsible for building and developing a professional engineering support team. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercializing and scaling-up new catalyst and process technologies from lab to market, including providing on-going support services. In the early stages, this team will design, operate and support an innovative pilot plant leading to commercialization of a transformational petroleum refining process. Over time, this position will be responsible for overall business unit management and leadership as this new process comes to market. Reports directly to the CEO while collaborating with R&D and manufacturing. Primary responsibilities will include:
- Recruit, develop, mentor and manage a highly technical chemical engineering group.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills within your team and across departments.
- Deliver customer presentations for technical support of sales and marketing.
- Effectively manage milestones and major deliverables in establishing a pilot plant and semi-works operations.
- Establish strong process engineering procedures and systems emphasizing process optimization, safety and productivity.
- Design equipment layout and operations, measurement and control systems, and process components for chemical reactions and processes.
- Prepare and evaluate cost estimates, economic feasibility, and new concepts for process and products.
- Maintain and strengthen the customer relationship as the focal point for chemical engineering.
- Proficient utilization of process engineering software.
- Contribute to company development through effective strategic planning.
- Adhere to standard engineering methods and promote safety at all times.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s in chemical engineering is required with 15 to 20 years experience in the oil industry, much of it gained in the refining and process development environment.
- Effective team development, team building and group management.
- Process engineering development, installation, and re-vamps with emphasis on distillation and separation.
- Experience in process development scale-up and commercialization.
- Strong research, analysis and strategic planning skills are essential.
- Know and use process engineering software.
- Demonstrate a strong business sense across disciplines.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced, start-up environment.
- Professional and effective presentations skills required
- Creative, detail oriented person with strong communication, organization, and team working skills.
- Well developed interpersonal skills emphasizing cooperation and professionalism.
